High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Edensor Park Public School, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is embedded across our daily teaching practices. We recognise that students show potential in many different ways, and we are committed to providing learning that challenges, extends and celebrates their strengths.
Differentiated Curriculum:
Our teachers use explicit, evidence-informed instruction and differentiated tasks to extend students at their point of need. Learning experiences are designed to challenge high potential learners and foster deeper understanding, creativity and critical thinking.
Collaborative Learning:
Students engage in purposeful group tasks and problem-solving activities that strengthen leadership, communication and higher-order thinking skills. Collaboration helps students learn from and inspire one another.
Regular Monitoring and Feedback:
We monitor student progress closely and provide timely, targeted feedback that supports continued growth. This ensures high potential learners are continually extended and supported in achieving their personal best.
Inclusive Identification:
Teachers use classroom observations, assessment data and student strengths to identify high potential and gifted learners across intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains. Every child’s abilities are valued, recognised and nurtured.
Professional Learning:
Our staff participate in ongoing professional learning focused on high potential and gifted education, explicit teaching, and evidence-informed strategies. This ensures teachers are well-equipped to identify, extend and support high potential learners across all domains.
Enrichment Programs:
Edensor Park Public School provides a variety of enrichment opportunities including public speaking, debating, STEM challenges, creative arts, leadership roles (SRC), cultural events and sport. These programs encourage students to explore their interests and develop their talents beyond the classroom.
Supportive Environment:
We foster a positive school culture that values wellbeing, celebrates diverse strengths and encourages all students to take on new challenges. Our inclusive practices ensure high potential learners feel supported, motivated and empowered to achieve their best.
Parent and Community Engagement:
We work in partnership with families and community groups to support the learning, wellbeing and growth of high potential students. Strong communication and collaborative relationships help us provide meaningful opportunities and shared support for every learner.
Our students engage in a broad range of statewide programs designed to extend and enrich high potential and gifted learners. These opportunities allow students to challenge themselves, explore new interests and showcase their strengths across multiple domains.
Students participate in initiatives such as the Premier’s Spelling Bee, Public Speaking, Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC), Premier’s Sporting Challenge, State Check-in assessments, high school STEM, science and arts initiatives, and a variety of sporting pathways through PSSA Gala Days and Sporting carnivals.
Statewide and NSW Department of Education programs offer additional support and enrichment for high potential and gifted students. We assist students with nominations, preparation and reflection to ensure every experience enhances their learning, confidence and personal growth.
